Our Commitment to Sustainability

Our business took well over a year to form because we are so strongly dedicated to sustainability practices at all levels, which is difficult to actually enact. We knew that sourcing was going to be integral. We have only a few sources because our interview process is in depth. We wanted to hear about the farmers' priorities, their current practices (their sourcing, feeding, housing, pasturing, and any medications or chemicals used on the farms) and their future directions. We partner only with local farmers who truly value sustainability, well beyond just getting a logo on their packaging. From day 1 all of our packaging has consisted of reused materials. From the glass jars we put our eggshell powder in to the bags we use for our treats (which are fabric and made from 100% reused materials), and now including our packaging for online orders (which are reused plastic bottles). We have also added a bag buyback program, so that our customers who have a surplus of our reusable fabric bags can return them, get a little discount, then WE can reuse those bags, giving them a 3rd round of usefulness at minimum! Moving forward:

  • We would love to add more sources so that we can not only offer more items, but also support those farmers as they, like we, do things the "hard" way.

  • We would also like to look at ways to lower our energy use, potentially including replacing a gas vehicle with an electric one, and/or solar panels for the baking.

  • Ultimately what we hope is that overall our customers, other business owners, and the public at large will see our sustainability practices and begin to think about how those choices could be made in their own homes and businesses.
